Itinerary | Junglam Trek - 14N/15D

DAY 1 Arrive in Delhi

The first day of your journey will start from Delhi. On arrival at Delhi airport, you will meet our representative and transfer to pre-booked hotel. Overnight stay in the hotel at Delhi.

DAY 2 Delhi – Leh (Complete Rest in Leh for acclimatisation)

The next morning, we will transfer you to the Delhi airport from where you will catch a flight to Leh. On arrival at Leh, you will meet our representative who will transfer you to the pre-booked hotel for relaxation and acclimatisation. The schedule has been made in such a way that after reaching Leh, one can take rest for the full day. This is necessary for everyone coming to Leh for getting acclimated at high altitudes. However, in the evening you can visit the colourful market of Leh. Overnight stay in the hotel at Leh.

DAY 3 Leh – Shey – Thiksey

On the third day of the trip, you will go on a sightseeing trip from Leh to some ancient monasteries in the surrounding area. Some of The Top Destinations of The Sightseeing: Shey Gompa: Shey Gompa is located at a distance of about 15 kilometres from Leh. It was once treated as the summer palace of the monarchs of Ladakh. Around the palace, there are numerous Stupas and Gompas. Deldan Namgyal began the construction of Shey Palace at the start of the 17th century. The 12m tall Shakyamuni Buddha statue inside the Dresthang Gompa is the main attraction of Shey. Thiksey Gompa: Thiksey Gompa is located at a distance of around 17 kilometres from Leh, close to Shey Gompa. Thiksey Monastery belongs to the Gelukspa order and it is considered to be one of the most beautiful places to visit in Ladakh.

DAY 4 Leh – Hemis – Shang Sumdo 3700 mts/12135 ft (48 kms/2 hrs)

On the early morning of the fourth day of the trip, you will drive towards Hemis by jeep and visit the Hemis Gompa. After having a tour of Hemis, you will start trekking to Shang Sumdo. After crossing Martselang Bridge, then you will ascend to the valley along the river. However, you will cross the river several times before reaching Shang Sumdo. Overnight stay in the tent.

DAY 5 Trek Shang Sumdo – Base of Kongmaru La (4800 mts/15750 ft)

The fifth day’s trail follows through stunning landscapes of red rocks along the slope. Then it comes along the river till Chuskyurmo (sour water). You have to pass the gorges of many small rivers and cross the water before making it to the end point of the day for camping. Your base for the night will be at Kongmaru la Pass.

DAY 6 Base of Kongmaru La - Lang Thang Chu River (4375 mts/14350 ft)

Your next day’s trek will start by ascending to Kongmaru La Pass at 5,150 metres altitude and then descending to a high mountain pasture at Nimaling at 4,700 metres. After reaching Kongmaru La, you will be offered a beautiful view of the northern face of Kang Yatse Peak (6,400m). After you reach Nimaling, you have to cross a ridge, then descend to a beautiful valley, again cross a river and trek up, following a rocky slope up to Konga Ngonpo (5,090m). The last part of the sixth day’s journey will be completed by descending along a very steep route before reaching a campsite near Male.

DAY 7 Lang Thang Chu - Zalung Karpo La (5200 mts/17056 ft)

The seventh day of the trek starts by crossing a large stream and a moraine. After an hour of journey, you will see the valley is divided into two parts. We will be continuing to the right side where the route goes up and down and reaches Zalung Karpo La. From here you can see the incredible view of the Zanskar range, Rupshu Valley and the K2 range. We will be staying at the camp on the other side of the pass for the rest of the day.

DAY 8 Zalung Karpo la - Tilat Sumdo

On the next morning, you will start your trek by descending from the camp towards the mainstream. After an hour of trekking, you will arrive at Kharnak Sumdo, a valley coming from the north (the route directly north leads to Rabrang La, 5000m.) We will follow the gorge, cross a stream several times and reach Tilat Sumdo through a rocky route.

DAY 9 Tilat Sumdo - A North camp (4450 mts/14596 ft) - Chhar Chhar La 4950m

After staying at Tilat Sumdo camp, the ninth day’s trekking will start by crossing the Khurna River. We will continue the journey on the right bank of the river and pass a couple of side valleys. After continuing for four hours, we will have our rest time at the camp where the valley narrows.

DAY 10 A North camp Chhar Chhar La - Zangla Sumdo

The 10th day of the trek will start by following the narrow gorge, passing through several narrow side gorges and you will eventually leave behind the stream for the rest of the trail. The route then follows gently up to the top of Chhachhar La at a height of 4,950m. You will follow the stream down from the top to reach Zangla Sumdo.

DAY 11 Zangla Sumdo – Zangla – Padum (35 kms drive)

We will be continuing descending from Zangla Sumdo along the stream until the trail reaches the wide expanse of the Zanskar Valley. You will be experiencing the wonderful views of the Zanskar River and the villages of Pishu and Pidmo on the other side of the river. Overnight stay at Padum.

DAY 12 Padum – Kargil (225 kms/8-9 hrs)

The next morning, after having an early breakfast, we will leave for Kargil from Padum and en route visit the Giant Maitreya Buddha at Mulbekh. You will arrive at Kargil in the evening. Overnight stay at Kargil.

DAY 13 Kargil - Leh (Via Lamayuru)

After breakfast, we will drive to Leh en route visiting Lamayuru, which belongs to Dripung Kagyu (Red Hat) like Phyang. Singey Lhakhang is the oldest structure in Lamayuru, which was built by the founder of Alchi Lotsawa Rinchen Zangpo in the 11th century. After visiting Lamayuru we will proceed further to Leh en route visiting Ridzong Gompa, which is known as the paradise for meditation. After you arrive in Leh you will meet our representative and check in at our hotel for an overnight stay at Leh.

DAY 14 Leh – Delhi

The next morning, you will be transferred to Leh airport for your return flight to Delhi. Do not miss watching the spectacular views across the main ranges of the Himalayas from the flight. Upon arrival at Delhi, you will have time for a half-day sightseeing tour. Overnight stay in a hotel in Delhi.

DAY 15 Delhi Departure

On the last day of the trip, we will transfer you to Delhi airport according to your flight schedule and complete this memorable journey.
